The drawing course introduces students to the fundamentals of drawing. Emphasis is placed on working from observation and learning to see. As the course progresses, students explore expressive content and a variety of significant topics/themes. A wide range of art materials is utilized, such as graphite, charcoal, india ink, conté crayon, and pastel. 

The student work displayed reflects selections from assignments based on observation. Each assignment explored a different aspect of drawing. Some assignments, such as the interior space drawings, and the shoe studies, began to tell a narrative about the artists who completed the work. Other assignments, such as the metallic object study and the cross-contour hand drawings, focused on texture, surface and line quality.
